Columbia, Missouri Axle, Bearing And Drive Shaft Repair

Axles are an integral part of a vehicle. It maintains the position of the wheels relative to each other and to the vehicle's body. An automobile axle is essentially two wheels separated by a rod. It has to bear the weight of the entire vehicle. There are two types of axles: drive axle and dead axle. A drive axle comes in two halves with a multi-ended joint connecting the two. It connects to the drive shaft and causes the wheels to turn. A dead axle is not connected to the engine. It exists primarily for load-bearing purposes. Its wheels only turn when the vehicle is moving.

Axle bearings are a vital part of your vehicle and how it moves. They hold the axle in place. The bearings begin to wear over time and make an obnoxious thumping sound when they do. When this starts to happen, you need to take it to a mechanic as soon as possible. The worn axles can cause more severe problems if you ignore it.

A drive shaft transmits torque and rotation. They are subject to torsion and shear stress. A drive shaft is a necessary component of a rear wheel drive vehicle. It transmits the engine's power from the transmission to the differential. It may be one piece or in two or more segments. If you are experiencing problems with your axles, bearings or drive shaft, please give us a call or stop by our shop.
